Configuring the FTP server and Web server

In this step we will configure the FTP server and WEB server.

We begin with the FTP server, we will use Proftpd, installed by entering the following code:

sudo apt-get install proftpd

Now edit the configuration file:

sudo nano /etc/proftpd/proftpd.conf

And at the end of the file add:

DefaultRoot ~

We save it by the same way as in the previous step (press F2 and Enter) and reboot the server Proftpd:

sudo /etc/init.d/proftpd restart

Next we will create the folder to store all, to do it we introduce:

mkdir /home/YourUserName/NameOfTheFolder

And we edit the file of apache 2 to include the folder we have just create:

sudo nano /etc/apache2/sites-available/default

We have to replace:

/var/www/

By the address of the folder that we have created before:

/home/YourUserName/NameOfTheFolder

Now save and restart the Apache web server:

sudo /etc/init.d/apache2 restart

And then delete the file index.html:

sudo rm /var/www/index.html

Now we should have everything ready to upload our website by FTP  and to read the web with a web browser through the local fixed IP address or through the address you chose in DynDNS.
